Cyber Security

We are living in a time of a paradigm shift towards cyber security attacks on new targets such as critical infrastructure, governments and sensitive data.

Cyber security is a broad topic with many different facets across several disciplines. It is important therefore that Qatar focuses on the areas of cyber security that are the most important to the country and in segments of cyber security where existing expertise in related technologies can be leveraged and readily applied.

In March 2013, QCRI held a roundtable with several local and international experts and stakeholders including local universities, media organizations, energy companies as well as the Qatar Ministry of the Interior, to discuss cyber security in Qatar and to determine a framework for establishing a cyber security research center.

Aspects deemed important are:

  • To predict, overcome and prevent the next generation of cyber-attacks on Qatar's critical infrastructure
  • To ensure preparedness for emerging cyber threats is addressed as part of the nation’s security

QCRI’s objective is to become a center of excellence in the application of real time data analytics for the detection of cyber attacks, forensics and remediation of a cyber event and to anticipate and ultimately defeat cyber attacks on Qatar’s cyber infrastructure.  To do this, we will build on our existing core strengths in data analytics and social computing and apply to cyber security.

We are actively seeking to hire researchers and engineers in this research area.  Visit our Join Us page to learn more about our hiring opportunities.

For technical or informational questions, please send an email to QCRI Careers with the name of the group to whom you’re directing your question, e.g. ALT, CS&E, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, Distributed Systems or Social Computing, in the subject line.
