Hassan is working on several machine translation projects, mainly meeting translation, translation into Arabic and translation of dialectal Arabic into English. He is also involved in building resources for the translation of educational content such as mathematics and physics lectures. Hassan has participated in several machine translation competitions like WMT 2013, IWSLT 2013, and NIST OpenMT 2014.
Before joining QCRI, Hassan completed his PhD from University of Stuttgart, Germany. He worked primarily on POS tagging of Urdu language, statistical machine translation, and transliteration. In his dissertation, he proposed a generic framework for transliteration mining that can mine transliterations in an unsupervised, semi-supervised and supervised fashion.
