QCRI is a brand-new research institute committing to world-class research in my area of expertise, which offers me unprecedented opportunities to embrace exciting challenges.
Wei works in the areas of information retrieval, natural language processing and Web data mining. His research focus in QCRI includes cross-lingual and multilingual issues in Web search, search ranking adaptation between different domains, NLP on social media or spanning heterogeneous media streams, sentiment analysis and social web dynamics.
Prior to joining QCRI, Wei received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2010 and was affiliated with the same university as a research assistant professor from August 2010 to August 2011. He was a research fellow in the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore from May to August 2010. Early on he was an intern at Microsoft Research Asia (with Natural Language Computing Group) during 2006-2008.
