I was excited by the challenge QCRI offered: help build a new world-class institute. I am glad to see it growing as a stimulating international research environment.
Preslav’s research interests include computational linguistics, machine translation, lexical semantics, Web as a corpus, and biomedical text processing.
At QCRI, he works on Arabic language processing, with an emphasis on machine translation to/from Arabic, both written and spoken.
Before joining QCRI, Preslav was a Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore for three years, where he worked on text and spoken language machine translation for Asian languages, including Chinese, Malay and Indonesian. Prior to that, Preslav spent nine months at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Sofia University, where he was an honorary lecturer. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 2007 (supported by a Fulbright grant and a UC Berkeley fellowship).
