To be part of something different than what I had been used to at Purdue University and contribute to the first computing research institution in the region.
Mourad is interested in research and development related to data management, data analytics, and scientific data and how they enable discovery and innovation in science. He conducts research in data integration, data quality, spatio temporal data management, and database systems for scientific data. He is also interested in building online resources to support (data-intensive) collaboration in science.
Before joining QCRI, Mourad was a Research Associate Professor at Purdue University where he worked on different aspects of data management including data integration (schema matching, schema mapping, and record linkage), spatio temporal data management (constraints awareness, massively parallel, adaptiveness), database systems for scientific data (annotation, provenance, deployment on the cloud), and service oriented computing (efficient querying and composition, access control, and service oriented large scale cyberinfrastructures).
He was the architect of several cyberinfrastructure platforms to support multidisciplinary research including a web-based system to manage experiments and analysis workflows in high throughput ionomics, a hub for enabling data sharing and collaboration around ionomics data, a plant science literature social network, visual data mining tools for network data in metabolomics, and a virtual community for global engineering.
Mourad has been PI or CoPI in more than 15 grant proposals funded by the US National Science Foundation, US National Institutes of Health, QNRF, US Department of Homeland Security, as well as other funding agencies. He received the Seeds of Success Award from Purdue University for being a CoPI in a $15M grant from the US Department of Homeland Security.
