QCRI is at an exciting stage of growth with world-class researchers. I am excited about the opportunity to establish QCRI at the forefront of data mining research.

Research Focus at QCRI

At QCRI, Zaki will focus on high performance and “intuitive” data mining methods for large-scale data, with focus on social media and bioinformatics applications.

Previous Experience

Zaki is a Professor of Computer Science at RPI. He received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Rochester in 1998. He has over 225 publications in data mining and bioinformatics. He is currently on the Board of Directors of ACM SIGKDD, and is the Information Director for ACM SIGBIO. He is an Area Editor for Statistical Analysis and Data Mining, and an Associate Editor for Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data, Knowledge and Information Systems, Social Networks and Mining, and International Journal of Knowledge Discovery in Bioinformatics. He has served as the program co-chair for all the main data mining conferences -- SDM'08, SIGKDD'09, PAKDD'10, BIBM'11, CIKM'12, and ICDM'12, and he is the founding co-chair for the BIOKDD workshop. He is the general chair for the International Symposium on Network Enabled Health Informatics, Biomedicine and Bioinformatics, 2013, and the SIAM International Conference on Data Mining, 2014.
